Lunafest — February 3, 2012

We are happy to report a very successful Lunafest event. There were over 100 people in attendance and we were able to raise about $3400 dollars in ticket sales, sponsorships and refreshment sales. Thanks to Cheryl McGregor and Lori-Ann Gertonson for obtaining the sponsorships of Elder Care Alliance and Gertonson Creating Wellness Institute.

Many thanks to the service committee who met every week for 10 weeks to make this a fun and successful event: Lori-Ann Gertonson, Nancy Holland, Cheryl McGregor, Susanne Pampus-Wiedener, Petra Block, Doreen Leighton and Marjorie Garlin. Thanks also to Zonta Club President, Mary Lee Cole, who did a great job in promoting the event, to Zonta members who assisted at the event, and to Jennifer La Chance and the students from the Center for Health Leadership.

The funds will be used to support one of the women Fellows at the UC School of Public Health Center for Health Leadership, The Breast Cancer Fund, and Zonta International.

We are looking forward to making Lunafest an annual event, so stay tuned for next year’s films.

YWPA APPLICATION – 2012 Zonta encourages young women to participate in public and political life. We are seeking applicants for our Young Women in Public Affairs Awards.
The Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award was created to recognize young women for their:
■ Commitment to volunteerism;
■ Volunteer leadership achievements; and,
■ Dedication to the advancement of the status of women.
Since 1990, more than 474 women between the ages of 16 and 20 representing more than 49 countries have been the recipients of these Awards.

What are the requirements?

Applicants must show:

Evidence of active commitment to volunteerism.
Evidence of volunteer leadership achievements.
Evidence of dedication to advancing the status of women worldwide.

How do I apply?

Brunch Served at Berkeley Food and Housing

On Sunday, October 30, 2011, members of our club once again provided and served brunch to the women and children at Berkeley Food and Housing. This has become an ongoing “hands-on” service project for our club. In addition, we collected small toiletry items and feminine products at our Holiday Party on December 2, 2011, to donate to the organization.
